New Machiya House “Nananohi” Opens in Takayama, Japan in August 2025

AJ InterBridge Inc. announces the official opening of ‘Nananohi’ Machiya House, a renovated traditional Japanese townhouse that joins the MACHIYA RESIDENCE INN Takayama collection. Located in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, this machiya holiday house (vacation rental) demonstrates AJ InterBridge’s commitment to preserving Japan’s architectural heritage while providing modern hospitality experiences.

Machiya Features and Design

Nananohi’ Machiya House is as an exclusive private holiday home accommodating up to 9 guests in 4 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms. This is a renovated traditional Japanese holiday home featuring a hinoki wood bath, full kitchen, dining room with horigotatsu sunken table, living room area, and more. Interior spaces blend Japanese and Western design. Traditional tatami rooms provide authentic cultural immersion, while Western-style accommodations offer familiar comfort for international guests. Two tsuboniwa courtyard gardens brings natural light and greenery into the home, creating tranquil indoor-outdoor connections.

Nananohi’s interior design draws from Shunkei nuri lacquerware, a distinctive Hida craft tradition characterized by rich red tones. These warm colors appear throughout selected rooms, including earthen walls in the tatami bedroom and bathroom tiles that surround the hinoki wood bath.

Takayama Tourism Market and Portfolio Expansion

Takayama received 4.42 million visitors in 2024, according to official city data, drawn to its preserved Edo-period districts, proximity to the Japan Alps, and seasonal attractions. Takayama city offers convenient access to the UNESCO World Heritage site Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama, supporting consistent tourism demand throughout the year. Located near Takayama Station, Nananohi provides easy access to the Sanmachi Suji historic district, morning markets, and traditional sake breweries.

The opening of Nananohi Machiya House adds to AJ InterBridge Inc.’s portfolio of traditional Japanese accommodations in Takayama, targeting both domestic and international travelers seeking unique cultural experiences.
