In November 2024, MACHIYA RESIDENCE INN Takayama “Ichika” will open as a private, one-group-per-day machiya holiday house located just one minute on foot from Takayama Station and within walking distance of the city’s famous Old Town district.

“Ichika” is a fully renovated, two-story machiya townhouse that has been transformed into a comfortable, light-filled space where guests can experience the charm and atmosphere of a traditional Japanese house. With convenient access to UNESCO World Heritage Site Shirakawa-go, as well as the towns of Hida Furukawa and Okuhida, the property serves as an ideal base for exploring the natural landscapes and cultural heritage of the Hida region.

The first floor centers around a traditional-style doma entrance space and features a living and dining room with a sunken irori-style table, a Japanese-style room for relaxing, a fully equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with a fragrant hinoki-wood bathtub. Skylights throughout the house bring in soft natural light. The second floor includes both Western-style and Japanese-style bedrooms. With floor heating installed throughout, the house provides a comfortable stay for groups of up to 6 guests.
