MACHIYA RESIDENCE INN Kyoto “Yumeha” Private Machiya House Opening February 2026
Yumeha Machiya House, a private, renovated traditional townhouse, has opened in Kyoto, offering guests a private machiya stay in one of the city’s most historic areas.
Located near Nijō Castle and Shinsen-en Garden, a historic imperial garden with over 1,200 years of history, Yumeha was built during the Taisho Period in the classic unagi no nedoko architectural style unique to Kyoto townhouses. This traditional “eel’s bed” design features a narrow street frontage that opens to a surprisingly spacious, elongated layout. While its exterior retains a traditional appearance, the interior has been carefully restored to provide a comfortable and spacious setting for modern travelers.

This private machiya house accommodates up to 6 guests and features 3 bedrooms, including one Western-style bedroom with a double bed, one Western-style bedroom with two single beds, and a traditional tatami room with futon bedding. For added comfort, the living-dining room includes a large dining table overlooking a tsuboniwa Japanese garden. Original wooden beams from the machiya’s century-old architecture stretch across the ceiling, connecting guests to Kyoto’s architectural heritage.
Additional amenities include a spacious soaking tub with garden views and waterfall shower head, a fully equipped modern kitchen, and floor heating throughout. Yumeha is suited for families and groups seeking a private and refined base for exploring Kyoto’s historic districts. Yumeha Machiya House is now accepting reservations.
